We are all familiar with that RPG trope of players hoarding consumables and goodies for a rainy day — only to never actually use them. Because you never know, right? Well, what if you were collecting and collecting potentially valuable treasure chests for years in an MMO without opening any of them until the time was absolutely ripe.
This is what happened this week in Old School RuneScape, as a player and streamer known as Pen Sir opened three years’ worth of clue caskets — over 10,000 in total — while viewers looked on in awe and envy. This seems like a good occasion to do it, as RuneScape is celebrating 25 years this month since its beta launch in 2001.
“Really it’s been years since I’ve opened any clues, I’m really excited for it,” Pen Sir told Games Radar prior to the opening. “The past couple of nights I’ve gotten maybe one to two hours of sleep, I’m really excited to finally open them. Finally getting to open these things feels surreal.”
