Fortnite v42.40: Final Chapter 7 Season 4 Update Brings New Sprites and Loot Hacks

Epic Games released Fortnite update v42.40 on October 15, 2026, with downtime starting at 4 AM ET. It is the final major update of Chapter 7 Season 4 (Override) and brings end-of-season content to the Fortnitemares 2026 event.

Where the content lands

TalkEsport reports the patch adds Fortnitemares content to Battle Royale, Reload and the Horde Rush limited-time mode. Because the map was overhauled when Fortnitemares began, Beebom did not expect major map changes in this update.

New Sprites and Loot Hacks

According to Esports.gg, v42.40 adds two new Sprites, including an Obsession-inspired One Wish Willow Sprite. The Loot Hack pool changed again, and you can spend Sprite Dust to earn one of these:

• Thorne’s Vampiric Blade
• Finger Guns
• Gatekeeper Shotgun
• Hunting Rifle

When does the season end?

Outlets give two dates for the end of Chapter 7 Season 4: October 31 and November 1. According to Timesaver, Epic’s Override Battle Pass page lists the end as November 1, 2026 Eastern Time, with season-end downtime around 4 AM ET that day. Insider Gaming also lists November 1, while other outlets give October 31 as the last day. Fortnitemares ends with the season, and unclaimed Battle Pass rewards and seasonal quests disappear at that point.

Treat the in-game countdown as the final word, and finish anything you want to keep before October 31.
