Scions of Fate is a free to play MMORPG by Netgame, and was released on November 13th, 2006. This game found major success in China and Korea, and it did so for the right reasons. Scions of Fate followed the logic that less is more. Instead of packing content after content after content into their game, they decided to make a game that was easy to pick up and play, while still having all the basic elements of a traditional MMORPG.
Scions of Fate has two different factions to choose from, which are The Order and Chaos. One interesting concept is that you are not able to choose your faction until Level 35. Most of the time a choice like that is made right from the start, so it’s interesting to be given the chance to learn more about the world before making an important decision on that caliber.
From there, most of the other features are pretty standard, yet needed to make a proper MMORPG. There are eight different classes to choose from, Bowman, Ninja, Busker and HanBla being some of them. There is a pet mechanic built into the game, and they can be upgraded at different levels, which are 15, 50 75 and 100. With all of these easy-to-use systems along with the basic user-friendly controls, Scions of Fate is a game any new gamer looking to try a MMORPG should start with.
One other interesting mechanic worth mentioning is their Couple system. You can experience 10 “ranks of love!” which can be used to fall in “love” with other players. If the other features of Scions of Fate didn’t sell you, maybe an extra feature like that might.
