NBA 2K27 Early Season Updates: What Changed From Launch to Version 2.0

By JamaicanKydd

NBA 2K27 started with early access on August 26, 2026 and a full launch on September 4. Its first weeks were mostly bug fixes, with the larger gameplay changes held back for the bigger Version 2.0 update on October 8, ahead of Season 2 on October 16. Here is how the early season has gone.

Update timeline

  • August 31, Update 1.3: a smaller hotfix that adjusted REP earn rates and fixed issues including squads breaking apart when backing out of matchmaking.
  • September 3, Update 1.4: bug fixes for The City and added DualSense Edge support on Steam, with no gameplay changes.
  • September 11, Update 1.5: fixes across Crew Divisions, MyCAREER Fire & Concrete and Breakout, again with no gameplay changes. The developers said gameplay tuning would come with a bigger update.
  • September 17: a gameplay update addressing shot contests and steals, applied automatically without a download.
  • October 8, Version 2.0: the first major patch, with changes to every mode.

Version 2.0: gameplay changes

  • Shot contests: “ghost contests,” where defenders who were not really contesting still hurt the shot, were fixed. Defenders now need to be more squarely in front of the shooter.
  • Shooting: open shots from quality shooters are more effective, mid-range gets a boost in competitive modes, and three-point percentages are slightly rebalanced.
  • Dunks: contact dunks succeed more often at every Rise Up badge level, and dunks and alley-oops are no longer missed with correct timing on the dunk meter.
  • Takeovers: several were tuned, including timing windows for Shot Artist, Calibrated and Navigator, and Rim Guardian now counters Airspace.
  • Defense: steal animations better match the stealer’s rating, and CPU defenders start looser and tighten up once a player starts scoring.
  • Passing and fouls: fewer missed catches, slightly faster pass speeds and fewer shooting fouls on blocked shots.

Version 2.0: modes

  • Crew Divisions: matches now earn 25% more REP and 2X Crew XP, and shot meters are enabled.
  • MyCAREER: Eras saves can now transition across eras for a full 25-year career. Tiers 7 and 9 of the Physicals Build Specialization track now have lower requirements.
  • MyNBA: simulated game pace is increased, raising shot attempts and related stats to more expected levels.
  • MyTEAM: new Game Changer cards (Goals and 2X REP) and a Redeem Prizes button in the Play tab.

PC and Switch 2

Version 2.0 was due on Nintendo Switch 2 and PC shortly before Season 2. The PC update adds Advanced Shader Delivery support to cut install times on supported graphics cards. Switch 2 gets a touch-screen drawing tool for custom images and better single Joy-Con support.

What it means for players

The shooting and contest changes are the ones to relearn, especially if you built around mid-range or relied on ghost contests. MP1st noted that a patch this size could need follow-up hotfixes. Season 2 was scheduled for October 16, with uniform updates arriving through a roster update. See the NBA 2K27 game page on GameGood for more.
